Hundreds of acres of coffee orchards are not the only thing flourishing at Kaanapali Coffee Farms in West Maui. This vibrant agricultural community is also enjoying a growth spurt with a number of new homes dotting this Napa-like landscape and families excited to be moving in.
Currently, seven homes are under construction and a number of homes are in the design phase. Among the newest owners are Arvinder and Manjeet Surdhar, who just broke ground on their 4,800 square foot estate.
“We had searched all over Maui and the Big Island for our ideal spot to call home when we arrived at the Kaanapali Coffee Farms,” said the Surdhars. “Looking out across the rows of green that were in full bloom and humming with the busy bees, the vista opened out to a spectacular view of the channel with Lanai on one side and Molokai on the other. The privacy and quiet afforded by the large lots, the climate, the sunset views and the proximity of world-class beaches, stores and activities urged us to stay. The red dirt and the coffee harkens back to our roots in Uganda … we had come home.”
The Surdhars selected Architectural Design & Construction, Inc. (ADC) as their design-build firm and are excited about their new home.
According to their architect, Morgan Gerdel of ADC, “the character of the Surdhars’ residence is based on traditional Plantation architecture with an open floor plan for a modern lifestyle. We maximized the indoor-outdoor living spaces by designing a series of separate distinct pods for the living areas, master suite, guest bedrooms and garage. These inviting spaces allow for additional light and take advantage of the warm tropical breezes. We carried the traditional detailing to the interior with historic millwork details and cabinetry. The living areas also feature large sliding pocket doors that open to the covered lanai, pool and view of Lanai and Molokai beyond.”
The Surdhars also look forward to spending time farming on their over 3.6-acre lot, where they plan to have multiple raised planter boxes, fruit trees (lemon, lime, mango, apple banana, avocado, papaya), and plants native to Hawaii. It’s a wonderful compliment to the already established, manicured coffee plants that will continue to be taken care of by local farmers – just one of the many perks of home ownership at Kaanapali Coffee Farms.
With so many homeowners taking pride of their new homes, it’s no wonder that there are only a few lots remaining in Kaanapali Coffee Farms’ first phase. And why those interested in purchasing a lot need to jump on this opportunity.
